The Dawning Institute exists to bridge the gap between traditional mental health systems and the human experience of healing. Too often, care is fragmented, inaccessible, or centered around labels instead of people. We’re here to change that.
Our mission is to provide holistic, trauma-informed support that integrates mind, body, and soul — making it possible for anyone, regardless of background or financial means, to access the care they deserve.
We believe healing is a human right. Our work is guided by compassion, inclusivity, and the simple truth that everyone’s journey matters.

We envision a world where wellness is not a privilege, but a shared experience — where every person can access care that’s collaborative, culturally conscious, and rooted in wholeness.
At The Dawning Institute, we’re reimagining what healing looks like when it honors the entire human being. We see a future where mental health care is no longer confined to symptom management, but expands to embrace emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing as one interconnected system.
We’re not here to compete with the system. We’re here to meet the needs it has left unmet.

Everything we do is grounded in values that reflect who we are — survivors, practitioners, and advocates for accessible, authentic care.

Healing should never be limited by circumstance. We create opportunities for everyone to access meaningful support, regardless of financial or social barriers.

True wellness comes when the mind, body, and soul work together. Our approach blends modern psychology, nutrition, and holistic practices to nurture the whole person.

We teach tools for lasting change, helping individuals understand their own healing process so they can grow beyond dependency and into self-trust.

Healing ripples outward. Through outreach and advocacy, we uplift underserved communities and build networks of shared care.

We lead with honesty, humility, and heart. Every interaction, from a session to a partnership, is rooted in genuine care and respect.
The Dawning Institute was founded from lived experience — not theory. After more than two decades of misdiagnosis and invalidation within the mental health system, our founder, Kathryn Downing, set out to create something different.
Her healing journey was shaped by necessity, resilience, and a deep desire to make sure no one else would face the same barriers. When she escaped a cycle of systemic and personal harm, she rebuilt her life piece by piece — guided by accessible resources, self-education, and sheer determination.
The Dawning Institute is the result of that journey: a place built by survivors, for survivors, where healing isn’t hidden behind privilege or credentials. Here, professional expertise meets lived understanding, and every practitioner shares one goal — to make holistic wellness attainable for everyone.

Kathryn Downing founded The Dawning Institute to make healing accessible to anyone who’s ever felt unseen or misdiagnosed. Her work is shaped by personal experience, professional training, and an unwavering belief in the power of the human spirit to recover and rise.
She brings compassion, courage, and lived understanding to everything she does, creating an environment where clients are met with genuine care and practical support.

Our team is made up of dedicated professionals who each bring a unique blend of expertise and personal experience to their practice. Many have walked their own paths through trauma, loss, or transformation — and that empathy informs everything we do.
We’re not just practitioners. We’re people who understand what it means to rebuild.
Together, we provide trauma-informed, integrative care across a wide range of modalities — all connected by one shared purpose: to help others find balance, clarity, and lasting healing.
A simple, human-centered system for professionals rebuilding, redirecting, or reentering the workforce.
